Fossil Record–April 2023

The objective for this project was to make a magazine on a subject that is niche: only for a specific group of people. I collaborated with Esther Chu, my classmate in our fourth year at AUArts, and we decided to lean into our shared interest: DINOSAURS! Researching our topic was extremely fun and enjoyable because we got to study and write articles about paleoart: artistic works that illustrate life from long ago. We loved every part of the process: researching our audience, writing about paleoart and discoveries, drawing the dinosaurs, choosing type and colours, and designing page layouts. Something we focused on in this magazine, which became part of the identity of Fossil Record, is the use of note-taking directly on top of the text layouts. We wanted our magazine to remind our readers of a scientific journal, where one quickly jots down notes or little drawings in the moment, and not make the magazine too clean and formal. .

Subsequently, we both have a magazine that we are so proud of and LOVE. I learned a lot about working with another designer, and it was such a pleasure to work with someone that had the same passions as me.
